Sukaina Walji

Sukaina Walji is a project manager and learning designer based at the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching at the University of Cape Town where she manages a team of learning designers and digital media producers who support faculty with designing blended and online courses and exploring new modes of teaching. Sukaina supports the development of and implementation of the university’s online and blended learning strategy. Her work includes learning design, conceptualisation and business modelling, project management, stakeholder liaison, and monitoring and evaluation of online and blended learning projects.

Over the past few years she has been part of a team that has built inhouse capacity to develop digital pedagogy understandings and skills, working first with creating and running MOOCs and now credit bearing blended and online courses. Her personal approach has been nurtured in the Open Education movement, and engagement with OER and open educational practices (OEP) primarily as a research communications advisor and researcher in the Research on Open Educational Resources for Development (ROER4D) project and through exploring Open Pedagogies.

She is currently engaged in two collaborative research projects: The Unbundled University: Researching emerging models in an unequal landscape and Perspectives from South African MOOC Takers: understanding transitions in and out of learning and work. Her research interests include online learning design, MOOCs, Open Educational Practices and Higher Education models and marketization.
