Jewon Woo

Jewon Woo is an associate professor of English at Lorain County Community College, Ohio. She served as a co-chair of the Center for Teaching Excellence at LCCC for three years, and is a fellow of the NEH Institute for Advanced Topics in Digital Humanities this year. She is interested in community-based teaching and learning beyond academia. While completing a PhD in English and Studies of Africa/African Diaspora at the University of Minnesota, she collaborated with local activists in the Twin Cities to initiate the Experimental College (EXCOtc). She loves to work with community-college and first-generation-college students who bring insightful stories and experiences into the classroom, and currently plans to create a first-year community of working-mothers-scholars. She also collaborates with students to publish local histories of African Americans online, while continuing her research on the 19th-century Black press, Colored Conventions Project, and African American literature.
