Jakob Gowell

Jakob Gowell, an educator and mental health professional, spent a few years backpacking in the Oregon wilderness learning from and teaching hurt humans psycho-educational concepts relating to healthy communication, boundaries, and secure attachment. Since leaving work in the wilderness, Jakob seeks to apply those lessons to wider educational contexts—in particular by advocating for the expansion of autonomy supportive instruction and other practices that support basic psychological need satisfaction consistent with Self-Determination Theory. Jakob’s background also includes service as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English as a Foreign Language in Cameroon, and a brief stint as a residential teacher/counselor at a therapeutic boarding school.
