Celeste Atkins

Celeste Atkins is a dedicated educator with a passion for sociology. She has taught at all levels including special education and elementary, as well as college. Celeste earned her Bachelor’s degree in sociology with high honors from CSU San Bernardino. She earned her Masters degree in sociology from USC. Celeste has been sociology faculty at Cochise College since the fall of 2011 and was department chair from 2012 - 2018. Celeste teaches a variety of sociology classes, including Intro, Race, Gender, and Human Sexuality. She teaches in all formats including face-to-face, hybrid, Cochise Connect, and online. She has also taught reverse credit courses for high school students. As department chair, she mentored new and adjunct faculty and provides workshops on issues such as classroom management. Her proudest achievement is being nominated by her students for Cochise College Instructor of the Year, 2018.

At the U of A, Celeste began working toward a doctorate in higher education in fall of 2017 under the guidance of Dr. Regina Deil-Amen. She is lucky to have the support of the Graduate Access Fellowship, the Delores R. Kaith Scholarship, the William Hupalo Scholarship, the T. Frank Saunders Memorial Scholarship, and the Arizona Council Sunshine Fund Endowment to help her financially. Celeste is honored to be the first Graduate Assistant in the Office of Instruction and Assessment where she has worked since fall 2017 assisting with faculty development support services such as workshops, mini-courses, consultations, course reviews, and class observations. She also provides support for the teaching, development, and assessment of courses in the Certificate of College Teaching as well as the development of instructional materials to support evidence-based teaching practice. In spring 2018, Celeste was awarded the University of Arizona Outstanding Administrative Graduate Assistant of the Year.
